MEET THE TEAM

Kimberly Koffler - founder/president

My background is in event management and design but 12 years ago, my life took an unexpected turn when my son decided he wanted to pursue a career in music, at 9 years old. As a supportive parent, I jumped headfirst into the world of band managing. I have been a tour manager, sound engineer, drum tech, chauffeur, concert promoter, band therapist and roadie. I love that I can use my skills and experience to support and promote local artists and events. And I'm grateful to be a part of something that brings people together to enjoy live music. There's something special about being a part of the behind-the-scenes magic that makes a show possible. And seeing these young musicians grow and develop their craft, both on and off stage, brings me immense joy and pride. As my son continues to pursue his passion for music, I am proud to have been a part of his journey and to continue supporting and promoting the local music scene in my community.

chrysta powell - Vice president/talent coordinator

Along with booking our musicians weekly and managing her daughter’s indie punk band, Chrysta has been teaching in public elementary schools for the past 30 years. Since 2021 Chrysta has booked well over 100 shows, both for us and for her other project Secondhand Productions. Chrysta believes that there is room for everyone in the local music scene and she feels honored to provide these opportunities for our young emerging musicians. Chrysta holds a BA in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Education from UCLA. She lives in the South Bay with her family and their two naughty Labradoodles.

Melanie gourzis - SECRETARY/community liaison

Melanie Gourzis joined SBMC in 2021 allowing her to merge her giant personality with life and work experiences and her attempt to help promote her (then) 17 year old musician son. Melanie and her husband have been avid supporters of the robust South Bay adult music scene for over 15 years so the next generation of musicians are a big deal to her and her family. Her Community Liaison position allows her to support her son, but also all the other teen and young adult musicians who are trying to find places for their talents to be heard. Melanie’s background includes an Associates degree in Computer Science and she has also spent time working sales for a high end gift boutique in Old City, Philadelphia and as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education for the Redondo Beach Unified School District.  Melanie lives in the South Bay with her husband, Mike and their son Michael, now 19.
